Connect and engage with UMBC before your first year begins! Dawg Days are additional summer programs that allow you to engage with UMBC and your classmates beyond Orientation day. Each Dawg Days program engages students in a variety of dynamic activities, inside and outside the classroom.
We have THREE Dawg Days programs that students can choose from:
1. DAWG DAYS: Service
Combine your Orientation program with this unique 2-day, 1-night on-campus overnight experience! With this extended Orientation experience that includes service learning at a partner community site, students will make meaningful connections with peers and mentors that will carry them through their first year at UMBC. There is no additional fee to participate in this program. To learn more, click here.
2. DAWG DAYS: Abroad
Dawg Days: Abroad is a 2 week experience to study abroad in Dublin, Ireland. Students will earn 3 credits towards their UMBC degree! Applications are currently being accepted for this program, and additional fees are required. To learn more, click here.
3. DAWG DAYS: Jumpstart
Dawg Days: Jumpstart is a six-week summer bridge program that offers students the chance to take a math, writing, and/or general education course during the summer along with an interactive transition seminar in the fall. Participants get an academic jumpstart at UMBC while also making new friends and learning about the campus. Additional fees are required. To learn more, click here.
All Dawg Days Summer experiences are accompanied by a two-credit UNIV 101 course to keep your connections strong!
Students participating in any Dawg Days program will also take an Introduction to the University (UNIV) course in their first semester.
UNIV101 – Introduction to the University
The purpose of this course is to continue the new student experience throughout the first semester to build the knowledge, skills, and practices needed to thrive at a research university. Students will identify, understand, and take a deep dive into an academic discipline, explore and demonstrate metacognitive awareness, connect with and integrate into the campus community, and develop themselves both personally and professionally. Students in this course will learn from faculty, staff, and peers within their academic discipline and across the larger campus community.
