Sample Schedule

An official copy of the schedule will be distributed at check-in with the most up-to-date times and room locations. Check-in will take place at the University Center.

8:00 a.m. Check-in and Continental Breakfast
Get your Campus ID picture taken on the first floor of the University Center, and then join us for a light breakfast before the program begins.

8:30 a.m. Welcome to UMBC!
Join our faculty, staff, and students as we welcome you to the UMBC community.

9:15 a.m. Small Groups with your Orientation Peer Advisor
Meet your Orientation Peers Advisor (OPA) and other new students in your group! Your OPA will lead you through the many traditions at UMBC as you learn more about our campus and student life.

9:30 a.m. Life at UMBC: On and Off Campus
Whether you are living on or off-campus, being connected to campus life is an important part of the college experience. Join Residential Life and Off-Campus Student Services staff to learn more about our vibrant residential community and off-campus living options, transportation services, ride-share programs, and more.

10:00 a.m. Thriving at UMBC
Questions about how to be successful at UMBC? Representatives from UMBC’s Campus Life, Career Center, Shriver Center, Women’s Center, and Office of Undergraduate Education will be able to answer your questions during this panel session.

10:20 a.m. At Your Service!
Bring your tough questions to this panel of Financial Aid, Student Business Services, Dining Services, Transit, Parking, University Health Services, and Counselor Center representatives.

10:45 a.m. UNIV 301: An Introduction to the Honors University
Learn tips and tricks from a faculty member on how to make the most of your UMBC experience. Hear their favorite UMBC memories and personal stories.

11:35 a.m. ENRL 301 and ARTC 301: Preparing to Enroll, Articulation and Transfer Credit Overview
As an Honors University, UMBC offers students a strong liberal arts foundation. Academic advisors will discuss the value and significance of the general education requirements. You will also learn about transfer credit policies and how to better understand your transfer credit report and the transfer credit review process.

12:10 pm. Lunch
Enjoy lunch and meet other incoming students before advising, course registration, and taking care of campus business.

12:40 p.m. Be Your Best Self
Join Student Judicial Programs, Campus Police, Title IX, Health & Safety representatives and your OPA’s for an interactive and engaging discussion about UMBC’s community standards.

1:50 p.m. Advising and Registration
Advising is perhaps one of the most important resources and tools to ensure your academic success. During this session, you will meet with an academic advisor to discuss your interests and goals, develop a course schedule, and register online for your first semester of classes at UMBC!

3:10 p.m. Taking Care of Business
This is time for you to take care of any additional business while on campus. This is also a good time to follow up with any of the offices you heard from earlier in the day, such as the Bookstore, Career Center, Counseling Center, Off-Campus Student Services, Office of Financial Aid and Scholarships, Student Business Services, Student Disability Services, and many more.

4:00 p.m. Retriever Roundup
Reconnect with family and friends and meet other members of the UMBC community. Be sure to get Retriever Ready by picking up your Fight Song Shirt and learn more about Welcome Week. Light refreshments will be served.
