10:35 a.m. UNIV 301: An Introduction to the Honors University
What does it mean to be a student at an honors university? Hear what our professors and OPAs rate as the best strategies for assuring your spot on the Dean’s list. Faculty will demonstrate innovative ways they are engaging students at UMBC including Blackboard communities, chats, and discussion boards.
11:15 p.m. Students’ Perspectives
Take an inside look at life on campus through the eyes of students. Our OPAs share their stories and lessons learned.
11:45 a.m. Lunch
Enjoy lunch and meet other incoming students before advising, course registration, and taking care of campus business.
12:45 p.m. Taking Care of Business
This is time for you to take care of any additional business while on campus. This is also a good time to follow up with any of the offices you heard from earlier in the day, such as the Bookstore, Career Center, Counseling Center, Off-Campus Student Services, Office of Financial Aid and Scholarships, Student Business Services, Student Disability Services, and many more.
2:10 p.m. ENRL 301 and ARTC 301: Preparing to Enroll, Articulation and Transfer Credit Overview
As an Honors University, UMBC offers students a strong liberal arts foundation. Academic advisors will discuss the value and significance of the general education requirements. You will also learn about transfer credit policies and how to better understand your transfer credit report and the transfer credit review process.
2:45 p.m. Advising and Registration
Advising is perhaps one of the most important resources and tools to ensure your academic success. During this session, you will meet with an academic advisor to discuss your interests and goals, develop a course schedule, and register online for your first semester of classes at UMBC!
4:00 p.m. Retriever Roundup
Reconnect with family and friends and meet other members of the UMBC community. Be sure to get Retriever Ready by picking up your Fight Song Shirt and learn more about Welcome Week. Light refreshments will be served.
